    Functional Keratin

Keratin is a family of more than 200 normally non-soluble proteins that play a fundamental role in nature. They are present in tissue such as fur and claws. With high sulphur content and containing a good balance of amino acids, keratins perform a fundamental structural role in nature. It has traditionally been difficult to extract keratin from its source without damaging its natural structure and the amino acids that make up the protein. Functional Keratin is the result of patent-protected processes that gently extract natural keratin in soluble form, leaving its natural amino acid structure intact Functional Keratin is a purified form of soluble keratin protein derived from pure New Zealand wool. It makes an excellent conditioning and protecting ingredient that binds easily to fur and interacts naturally and favourably with the animal’s own keratins. Its high molecular weight and its substantivity to fur in both aqueous solution and grooming formulations provide a natural alternative to other film-forming substances. Because it is in a natural high molecular weight form, Functional Keratin coats the surface of the hair and skin, and provides protection from potentially damaging environments.
